Urging Strong US Leadership
to End TB

IDSA has developed a physician and researcher sign-on letter to US Ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, urging for strong US leadership in the UN High Level Meeting on Ending Tuberculosis, to take place during the UN General Assembly on September 26. We encourage physicians and researchers to sign onto the letter.

The High Level Meeting presents an unprecedented opportunity for UN member states to commit to ending the global TB epidemic. The letter urges the US mission to the UN to push for robust funding commitments to find and treat TB cases and for TB research and the development of new treatments, rapid diagnostics, and a vaccine. At the High Level Meeting, member states will commit to achieving specific goals for TB elimination by signing onto a political declaration, which is currently being drafted by High Level Meeting co-chairs Japan, Antigua and Barbuda.

IDSA will compile signatures and send the letter to Ambassador Haley in May, ahead of the release of the draft political declaration and a civil society hearing on June 4 at the UN in New York.
