This year the committee is recruiting a nurse with expertise in antimicrobial stewardship to join the committee.
Purpose
To build the framework and content needed to train fellows in the principles and practice of antimicrobial stewardship.
Responsibilities
- Provide content and data used in building a core curriculum for ID fellows to provide foundational training in AS
- Provide content and data used in building an advanced curriculum for ID fellows who desire or plan to lead an AS program
- Review curriculum courses and modules as they are developed by IDSA staff
- Evaluate, review, and revise content drafted and completed by other workgroup members
- Propose updates and enhancements to curriculum(s) as new research, findings, and topics of interest change
Ideal Qualifications
Workgroup members should have expertise in antimicrobial stewardship and/or medical education. Current involvement in an antimicrobial stewardship program at their home institution and concurrent involvement with medical education at their home institution is preferred.
Composition
Members shall include a Chair, Vice Chair and workgroup members from diverse backgrounds working with, or having a strong interest, in antimicrobial stewardship and/or education. For curriculum development, workgroup members are broken up into teams led by a team lead. New members will be added as needs arise related to areas of expertise.

Meeting Frequency
Meetings for the entire workgroup are held monthly, in addition to smaller monthly meetings with chair and members of IDSA staff. As content development progresses, smaller meetings with each team is often required to meet additional goals and timelines. Most meetings are held by teleconference and occasionally in-person (usually IDWeek). Committee members are often asked to respond to email communications on a regular or as needed basis to provide input or review content.
Estimated Time Commitment
The time commitment varies depending on curriculum development status. Overall, members will typically spend 5-10 hours per month developing content, brainstorming with their teams and participating in monthly calls. Peer reviews and testing may contribute to these hours as well.
Method of Appointment
The members shall be appointed by the Director of Education and workgroup chair after recommendations from current/past workgroup members along with IDSA/PIDS/SHEA staff members.
Term of Office
The Chair, Vice Chair along with additional workgroup members shall serve in designated position for two years which can be extended given current level of involvement and status of projects. Workgroup members can ask to be removed from current role due to time restraints and other obligations.

Reports to Education Committee, providing quarterly progress and updates to the Board of Directors
