Description:

Using diversity, inclusion and equity as a guiding principle, recommend strategies for identifying and cultivating leaders to advance the Society’s strategic plan.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the Society's governance structure is reflective of the overall membership.
  • Develop and maintain a governance competency model.
  • Inform the volunteer leadership life cycle and assist with developing programs to identify and develop future volunteer leaders.
  • Develop and administer the process of identifying and recruiting qualified candidates to serve as volunteer leaders.
  • Ensure transparency in the nominations process.
  • Propose a slate of qualified candidates for the Board of Directors.
  • Propose committee chairs and vice chairs for Board approval.
  • Upon request, participate in IDSA/HIVMA advocacy activities, responding to IDSA/HIVMA action alerts, joining IDSA/HIVMA for meetings with policymakers and encouraging colleagues to support IDSA/HIVMA advocacy.
  • Upon request, serve as a media spokesperson for IDSA in support of Society policies, positions and strategic priorities. If called upon to serve in this capacity, media training will be provided.

Qualifications

Note: Members are ineligible to serve in an IDSA leadership role (Committee Chair, Board Officer or Director) for a period of two years after they leave the committee.

Estimated Time Commitment

  • Number of face-to-face meetings: up to one meeting/year
  • Length of meetings: up to 4 hours
  • Number of remote meetings: Up to 3 per year, up to 2 hours each
  • Hours/year of committee work required outside of meetings: members 5 hours, chair & vice chair 10 hours
  • Additional time may be required if member agrees to lead a project (e.g. drafting a white paper) or to represent IDSA at an external meeting

Method of Appointment

With input from the CEO, committee chair, and committee staff liaison, the members shall be appointed by the president and president-elect.

Terms of Office

  • Chair and Vice Chair: two years with the option of one additional, consecutive, one-year term
  • Members: three-year terms with no option for consecutive reappointment

Composition

Up to 9 members:

  • Chair
  • Vice Chair
  • Up to seven at-large members

A minimum of three members of the committee must be former IDSA Board members

Reports to Board of Directors
