Purpose

IDSA is recruiting infectious disease experts to participate in a World Health Organization-coordinated virtual initiative serving the Rohingya refugee camps in Bangladesh – the largest refugee settlement in the world. The program, run through the WHO’s Bangladesh Country office with support from the Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network, currently connects voluntary health professionals based in the U.S., U.K., Germany and Australia with local Bangladeshi physicians providing COVID-19 and other infectious disease care to Rohingya refugees. Volunteers provide expertise on the clinical management of COVID-19 appropriate for the context and aligned with Bangladeshi national and WHO international guidelines.

Responsibilities

Volunteers will be asked to sign up for and participate in virtual sessions organized by the WHO and UNHCR on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 7 – 8 am EST via the Microsoft Teams platform. The typical format of a session resembles a traditional case conference in which a local physician presents a case and attending experts advise on management, in addition to providing updates on new medical and scientific developments and global epidemiology data.
