Description:

Establish IDSA as the scientific voice on issues and standards related to infectious diseases; monitor, develop, and make recommendations to establish clinical policy on infectious diseases related issues; and make recommendations and oversee the development of practice guidelines or any other standard setting documents including those done in collaboration with other groups

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain IDSA’s portfolio of standards and practice guidelines, assessing and responding to scientific changes, organizational priorities and member needs. Activities include the following:
    • Provide support and guidance to guideline panels, ensuring panel adherence to COI and other guideline development policies and procedures .
    • Review and recommend updates to IDSA’s standards, guidelines and guidance policies and procedures.
    • Review and approve new standard and guideline topics, and help prioritize topics for development and update.
    • Review and recommend chairs and potential members for guideline panels; this is done by the SPG. Subcommittee chair and the SPG Subcommittee liaison to the guideline panel.
    • Review standards, guidelines and guidance documents for approval or endorsement.
  • Review and support the development of guideline derivative products to assist with implementation of guidelines into clinical practice.
  • Contribute to the improvement of guideline development, dissemination and implementation processes by participating in small group initiatives, IDWeek session planning, and other collaborations.
  • Develop annual workplan to be approved by the Practice & Quality Committee.
  • Upon request, participate in IDSA/HIVMA advocacy activities, responding to IDSA/HIVMA action alerts, joining IDSA/HIVMA for meetings with policymakers and encouraging colleagues to support IDSA/HIVMA advocacy.

Qualifications

  • A well-rounded committee of individuals across a variety of practice settings will be sought with collective expertise in the following areas:
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment iof infectious diseases, ideally in a variety of practice settings.
  • Familiarity with medical practice guideline concepts and issues (e.g., principles of evidence-based medicine).
  • Expertise in the development of clinical practice guidelines and other clinical policy products .
  • Expertise in guideline implementation and other efforts to assist in the integration of clinical policies into practice.
  • Embodies IDSA’s Inclusion, Diversity, Access and Equity Principles.
  • Displays the appropriate Ideal Characteristics for IDSA Leadership for the role.

Estimated Time Commitment

  • Number of face-to-face meetings: Up to 2 per year
  • Length of meetings: 1 day
  • Number of remote meetings: 10-12 per year, 1-2 hours each
  • Hours/year of committee work required outside of meetings: members 12-15 hours, vice chair 15-18 hours, chair 15-18 hours. Workload will vary depending on project participation

Method of Appointment

With input from the CEO, subcommittee chair, and subcommittee staff liaison, the members shall be appointed by the president and president-elect.

Terms of Office

  • Chair and Vice Chair: two years with the option of one additional, consecutive, one-year term
  • Members: three-year terms with no option for consecutive reappointment.
