Purpose

The Fellows Subcommittee serves as an advisory group responsible for providing input from a trainee’s perspective to inform IDSA initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a liaison to an assigned IDSA committee, subcommittee, or advisory group to better inform IDSA’s governance decisions by integrating the trainee perspective
  • Foster fellow, resident, and medical student participation and membership in IDSA.
    • For example: by posting on the Early Career message board on MyIDSA, reviewing and providing feedback on IDSA projects such as the Antimicrobial Stewardship Curriculum.
    • As part of their role as a liaison to IDSA committees, participate in assigned committee tasks and projects
    • Work with IDWeek staff to provide input on programming and opportunities for early career attendees.
  • Provide feedback on issues related to fellowship training

Ideal Qualifications

The ideal member is a current ID Fellow that is interested and engaged in issues relating to training, medical education, research, clinical practice or other issues affecting the field of infectious diseases.

Number of Members

Minimum of eight.

Composition

Members shall include a Chair, a Vice-Chair, and at least six, at-large members. It is comprised of IDSA members who are currently enrolled in an ID Fellowship program.

Meeting Frequency

Meetings to be held quarterly, as needed, by teleconference and one in-person meeting at IDWeek, for a total of 4-5 calls/meeting per year.  Committee members will be asked to respond to email communications on a regular or as needed basis to provide input on potential issues or programs.

Estimated Time Commitment

One to two hours per month.

Method of Appointment

Members are nominated by an ID Program Director who is also a member of IDSA. The members shall be appointed by the Board of Directors with input from the President-elect in consultation with the CEO, ID Training Program Directors Committee chair, and staff liaison.

A letter of recommendation from the nominating ID Program Director is required for this application.

Term of Office

The term on the subcommittee will be three years.

Accountability

Reports to the ID Training Program Directors Committee.
