Description:

Use inclusion, diversity, access and equity as a guide in recommending a slate for the HIVMA Board of Directors on an annual basis, and to recommend strategies for identifying and cultivating leaders to advance HIVMA’s strategic priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Identifying in consultation with HIVMA staff gaps in representation and expertise on the HIVMA Board of Directors.
  • Ensuring the HIVMA application and selection is fair and equitable. 
  • Reviewing applications for the HIVMA Board of Directors.
  • Recommending a slate of candidates for the HIVMA Board of Directors.
  • Upon request, participate in IDSA/HIVMA advocacy activities, responding to IDSA/HIVMA action alerts, joining IDSA/HIVMA for meetings with policymakers and encouraging colleagues to support IDSA/HIVMA advocacy.

Estimated Time Commitment

  • Number of face-to-face meetings: anticipate three to four meetings 60 to 90-minute meetings per year 
  • Committee Members: In addition to meetings, up to 20 hours reviewing applications and providing guidance to staff
  • Chair and Vice Chair: Update to 30 hours outside of meetings
  • Additional time or travel commitments may include participation in leadership development activities.

Method of Appointment

With input from the CEO, committee chair, and committee staff liaison, the members shall be appointed by the IDSA president and president-elect.

Terms of Office

  • Chair and Vice Chair: two years with the option of one additional, consecutive, one-year term
  • Members: three-year terms with no option for consecutive reappointment.

Composition

Up to 10 members:

  • Chair who has experience serving on the committee and has been an effective and engaged participant  
  • Vice-Chair who has experience serving on the committee and has been an effective and engaged participant 
  • Up to 8 members
  • Designated seats for at least one APP, clinical pharmacist and non-ID trained HIV specialist
  • Up to 6 members may have HIVMA Board experience

Accountability

Reports to the HIVMA Board of Directors
