Clinical Infectious Diseases publishes supplements approximately 7-11 times a year, spotlighting collections of content in specific topic areas. Recent CID supplements include Evidence Papers for the CDC Sexually Transmitted Infections Treatment Guidelines; Implementing Whole Genome Sequencing for Surveillance of Antimicrobial Resistance: Local and International Insights into Klebsiella pneumoniae; and Community Mortality Burden Associated with Respiratory Syncytial Virus in Low- and Middle-Income Countries. An archive of CID supplements is available at https://academic.oup.com/cid/supplements.
CID is recruiting an associate editor who will lead CID’s supplements program.
Purpose
The CID supplements editor will provide editorial leadership and oversight of CID’s supplements.
Responsibility
The supplements editor will work directly with IDSA’s publishers at Oxford University Press as well as the CID editor-in-chief, deputy editor, and associate editors to identify potential topics for CID supplements and to vet supplement proposals. Once a supplement proposal is approved, the supplements editor will conduct initial editorial review of all submitted papers; identify peer reviewers for the supplement; consider peer review comments and make initial decisions on all submitted papers; and review revised manuscripts and make final decisions on each. An annual honorarium is provided.
Qualifications
CID is looking for an infectious diseases physician (MD or equivalent) with broad and general ID experience, as well as a strong interest in developing ideas for content for future CID supplements. Preference will be given to applicants who are active clinically, and also have research experience.
Composition
CID is recruiting one supplements editor based on history of supplement volume.
Estimated Time Commitment
Approximately 75 hours/year, although the specific time commitment per year for the supplements editor will vary depending on the number of supplements received and the number of papers in each supplement. CID typically publishes 7-11 supplements per year with an average of 12 papers in each. Note that supplement activity tends to be greatest in April-July due to the timing of year-end publication deadlines.
Method of Appointment
- The editor-in-chief of Clinical Infectious Diseases will review applications and select a supplements editor by July 28, 2022.
Term of Office
The CID supplements editor’s initial term will last through June 30, 2027, with the potential for appointment to a second term.
