Description:

Science Speaks, IDSA’s and HIVMA’s blog, seeks contributors to submit original posts that inform our readers about timely ID-related topics and developments, drawing on members’ expertise and experiences in the field, from clinical care and research to public health activities and advocacy efforts. We also seek posts that provide updates on IDSA’s and HIVMA’s science-based priorities, initiatives and related activities.

Purpose

With regular posts, IDSA’s blog reminds readers that infectious diseases don’t observe national boundaries, and effective, evidence-based responses protect us all. With the on-the-ground experience of IDSA members and staff, Science Speaks informs readers of both global and domestic impacts and answers to infectious diseases. The blog also provides updates on IDSA’s and HIVMA’s science-based approaches to improve the health of individuals and their communities and to address challenges facing the field of ID and HIV, both in the U.S. and around the world. Our primary audience is IDSA and HIVMA members, but a secondary audience includes the broader group of professionals with an interest in ID, HIV and related policy issues.

Responsibility

Identify an ID-related topic or development for which you can provide a timely, engaging and informed perspective and propose the post. After discussing the proposed post with IDSA staff for approval, draft your submission, submit it via email and be available to answer questions. Posts should be no longer than 800 words, and shorter posts are welcome. Links to related resources or information are encouraged. Please include an author headshot and a brief bio (less than 200 words). Additional images or graphics relevant to the post that are not protected by copyright are also welcome. Posts are published based on our overall editorial calendar but generally no sooner than within 2-3 weeks of receipt.

Use of AI, chatbots and large language models

If artificial intelligence, a large language model or a similar tool is used in the development of a post submitted to Science Speaks, the following is required:
•    The AI/LLM cannot be credited as an author.
•    Blog post authors must review the content generated by the AI/LLM and take full responsibility for it, as they would for any other content within the post.
•    The use(s) of AI/LLM tools must be noted and specified when the post is submitted for consideration.
•    The use of AI/LLM tools must be documented in the post in an acknowledgment.
