Are you a member of the infectious diseases profession, whether as a physician, pharmacist, nurse, advanced practice practitioner, or trainee (medical student, resident or fellow)? Do you enjoy making art that celebrates the many facets of infectious diseases? JID invites your submissions for its 2023 community call for cover art.
JID welcomes all members of the infectious diseases community with an interest in art to submit original artwork for consideration for use on a future journal cover. Artwork can be created in any medium; however, please note that selected finalists must be able to submit their art as a digital file of 300 dpi resolution or higher.
Submitted art will be evaluated by the JID editors based on quality and how effectively the art communicates its message for the submission category selected (see Categories, below).
Categories
Art is welcomed that reflects any of the following three categories:
- Antimicrobial resistance
- Global health
- Inclusion, diversity, access and equity in infectious diseases
- Other
Dimensions
Recommended dimensions for cover art are as follows:
- Portrait orientation: 5.5 inches (14 cm) tall and 4.75 inches (12 cm) wide
- Landscape orientation: 4.75 inches (12 cm) wide and 5.5 inches (14 cm) tall
- Square image: 4.75 inches (12 cm) square
Submission Requirements
Upon submission, artists will be asked:
- To identify the category their artwork belongs to (see Categories, above).
- To attest that they own copyright to the submitted artwork.
- To provide a cover caption to go along with their artwork, written for a general ID audience.
- To attest that the artwork was not generated using an AI art generation tool or through Biorender (due to licensing issues).
- To provide their social media handles, if any, so that we can include them when promoting any cover featuring their art.
- To provide a digital file of their artwork for consideration by the editors. Although final high-resolution files will be collected from the selected finalists, we encourage high resolution artwork submissions to facilitate review.
- If you are submitting artwork that includes photographs of identifiable individuals, please include a consent form with your submission.

Selected finalists will be asked to give JID permission to use their submitted artwork on any future JID covers (note: artists will not be asked to transfer copyright for their art to JID).
