IDSA Clinical Affairs Payment Policy Work Group
The Payment Policy Work Group will support IDSA’s Clinical Affairs Committee in developing and implementing coverage and payment strategies for the delivery of infectious diseases healthcare services and incentives at both the clinical and system levels. Responsibilities include making recommendations for improving coding and documentation of ID physician services, reviewing and providing input on comment letters to CMS, and assisting in developing educational content about Medicare and other third-party payers. Members also may review payment policy initiatives promulgated by other medical specialty societies and assist with review and comments for sign-on letters.

Responsibility

  • To monitor and advocate with Medicare and other third-party payers for improved coverage and payment for infectious diseases services, including improved payment tied to quality, value, and shared savings through alternative payment models.
  • To make recommendations for improving coding and documentation of ID physician services
  • To assist IDSA’s CPT advisor in reviewing proposed coding issues and policies from the CPT Editorial Panel and develop CPT and other coding proposals that advance the needs of ID physicians.
  • To support IDSA’s RUC advisor in providing feedback and recommendations regarding RVUs
  • To assist in developing educational content about Medicare and other third-party payers, as well as communications about changes in physician payment policies by Medicare and other third-party payers

Qualifications

Individuals with experience in coding, reimbursement, payer policy, and alternative payment models. Current or prior experience as a Medicare or private payer Medical Director, or Medicare Contractor Advisory Committee (CAC) member is desirable but not required. Any IDSA member who has served, or is serving, in a role where they are regularly engaging with payers is encouraged to apply.

Composition

Members shall include a Chair, Vice Chair and up to nine, at-large members including at least one IDSA member serving as IDSA’s advisor or alternate to the AMA Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) Editorial Panel and the AMA/Specialty Society RVS Update Committee (RUC).

Estimated Time Commitment

1-2 hours per month.

Method of Appointment

The members shall be appointed by the Clinical Affairs Committee Leadership i.e., the chair, vice-chair, and board liaison.


Term of Office

The Chair and Vice Chair shall serve for two years.  Reappointment for one additional, consecutive, one-year term is permissible.  Members shall serve three-year terms with option for consecutive reappointment.
