Purpose
HIVMA’s Leadership Development Committee will use diversity, inclusion, access, and equity as a guide for identifying and cultivating leaders to advance HIVMA policy priorities and programs.
Responsibilities
- Ensure HIVMA’s leadership structure and leadership reflect the field of HIV providers and researchers. Develop and administer the process of identifying and recruiting qualified candidates to serve as volunteer leaders.
- Propose a slate of qualified candidates to the HIVMA Board of Directors.
- Propose candidates for the HIVMA seat on the IDSA Board of Directors to the HIVMA Board of Directors for consideration by the IDSA Leadership Development Committee.
- Propose candidates for HIVMA committees to the HIVMA Executive Committee.
- Monitor and make recommendations regarding volunteer and leadership opportunities within HIVMA. Ensure transparency in the nominations and elections process.
- Provide input on new Board member orientation process and resources.
Ideal Qualifications
Members with experience in leadership development and with a working knowledge of, and commitment to, diversity, inclusion, access, and equity principles.

Composition
Chair, Vice Chair and a minimum of 5 committee members. The committee shall reflect the field of HIV providers and researchers and ideally include at least one ID physician; an internal medicine or family medicine physician; a nurse practitioner or advanced practice practitioner and a PharmD. Committee composition also shall strive to reflect diversity for other demographics including geography, race/ethnicity, gender, medical degree, professional activity, employment setting and age.
Meeting Frequency
The committee primarily convenes via teleconference two to three times per year and may hold an in- person meeting in conjunction with IDWeek or CROI.
Estimated Time Commitment
Averages out to 2 to 3 hours per month. (32-40 hours per year)
Method of Appointment
Solicit volunteers from the membership. Appointments made by the Executive Committee in consultation with the HIVMA Executive Director subject to approval by the HVIMA Board of Directors. Members shall serve three-year terms with no option for consecutive reappointment.
Term of Office
The Chair and Vice chair shall serve for two years. The Vice Chair may be appointed as Chair.
