Description:

Oversee the Society’s recognition awards program, including soliciting Society award nominees from the membership, ensuring a broad swath of nominations from diverse groups in alignment with our IDA&E principles. The committee recommends a slate of awardees each year to the IDSA board of directors.

Responsibilities

  • Encourage fellow members to submit nominations for Society Awards
  • Nominate members for Society Awards
  • Thoroughly review all completed nominations for the Society Awards 
  • Score nominees in assigned award categories 
  • Make recommendations for the selection of the Awards to the IDSA Board 
  • Make recommendations for changes in awards, criteria, scoring, and presentation. 
  • Upon request, participate in IDSA/HIVMA advocacy activities, responding to IDSA/HIVMA action alerts, joining IDSA/HIVMA for meetings with policymakers and encouraging colleagues to support IDSA/HIVMA advocacy. 
  • Upon request, serve as a media spokesperson for IDSA in support of Society policies, positions and strategic priorities. If called upon to serve in this capacity, media training will be provided. 

Qualifications for Membership

Estimated Time Commitment

  • Number of face-to-face meetings: up to one meeting/year
  • Length of meetings: up to 4 hours
  • Number of remote meetings: Up to 3 per year, up to 2 hours each
  • Hours/year of committee work required outside of meetings: members 5 hours, chair & vice chair 10 hours
  • Additional time may be required if member agrees to lead a project (e.g. drafting a white paper) or to represent IDSA at an external meeting

Method of Appointment

With input from the CEO, committee chair, and committee staff liaison, the members shall be appointed by the president and president-elect.

Terms of Office

  • Chair and Vice Chair: one year
  • Members: three-year terms with no option for consecutive reappointment

Composition

Up to 12 members:

  • Chair (IDSA president-elect)
  • Vice Chair (IDSA vice president)
  • Up to ten at-large members

No designated seats, however, an effort is made to ensure private practice, clinical care, and pediatric ID members are represented in the group. Past award recipients make up at least half of the committee.
