Clinical Infectious Diseases is seeking to launch a new regular feature within the journal, “State-of-the-Art Reviews.” This new section will publish a monthly comprehensive review article in an area of clinical infectious diseases, with a focus on controversies and common challenges that frequently arise in clinical practice. These reviews will consist of a concise summary for print and a longer version online that will allow additional tables, figures, and references.
CID is recruiting a special section editor to lead efforts to recruit and publish the State-of-the-Art Reviews.
Purpose
The State-of-the-Art Reviews editor will lead the State-of-the-Art Reviews section in CID.
Responsibility
The State-of-the-Art Reviews editor will be responsible for generating ideas for reviews, inviting experts in the field to contribute, and reviewing submitted proposals and manuscripts that are submitted. Published reviews will also be featured on social media. An annual honorarium is provided.
Qualifications
CID is looking for an infectious diseases physician (MD or equivalent) with broad and general ID experience and a strong network, as well as a strong interest in developing ideas for content for this new special section of the journal.
Composition
CID anticipates appointing one or two editors for this role. If two editors are appointed, they will split responsibility for the special section, with each responsible for 6 submissions each year.
Estimated Time Commitment
Approximately 40 hours/year for one editor, approximately 20 hours/year for two.
Method of Appointment
- The editor-in-chief of Clinical Infectious Diseases will review applications and select a State-of-the-Art reviews editor or editors by July 28, 2022.
Term of Office
The CID State-of-the-Art Reviews editor’s initial term will last through June 30, 2027, with the potential for appointment to a second term.
Accountability
The CID State-of-the-Art Reviews editor’s work is overseen by the CID editor-in-chief.

Experience Required:
Experience with journal peer review. Clinically active in ID, with a broad understanding of challenges and controversies in the field. Attendance at IDWeek (during which many reviews are featured as oral presentations) is highly desirable.
